Can honey be mixed with various herbs to apply on
skin?
Dr JV Hebbar
In a recent newsletter, we learnt that honey is extremely beneficial, not only for oral consumption but when applied on skin as well. Missed it? Read here
Honey is a Yogavahi - a catalyst. So, surely it can be blended with a huge variety of herbs.
Here are a few honey-herb combinations for skin health
Honey with Aloe vera:
Honey is drying and mildly hot, aloe vera is soothing and cooling. The net effect of this combination is cooling and soothing. You can apply this on an oily skin with excess burning sensation, to improve local blood circulation and on acne.
Make a paste of 10 grams of aloe vera paste and add 40 grams of honey, stir well. If honey is added 3-4 times than aloe vera, then it can be stored for a week. If not, you may have to prepare it fresh everyday.
Honey with Turmeric powder -
A very ideal combination to improve skin glow and to treat minor skin issues
Honey with cucumber - Cooling and soothing. Extremely useful in relieving burning sensation, herpetic neuralgia (cold sores), can also be applied on wounds and ulcers.
Honey with neem, turmeric and triphala - Very useful to apply locally to treat wounds, diabetic foot ulcers, carbuncles etc.
Honey with Triphala powder – Useful in scraping out the slough, useful in treating chloasma.
Honey with lemon - Stimulating, slightly warming, improves blood circulation
Honey with ginger powder - Hot, improves blood circulation, keeps the body warm, useful in cold climatic conditions to keep the body warm. But this can dry up the skin a little.
Honey with Ayurvedic medicines like
Dashamoola, Dashanga Lepa, gandhaka malahara - any of these medicines is mixed with equal quantities of honey and applied to treat candidiasis, cellulitis and folliculitis.
