How to Germinate Cannabis Seeds in Soil or Coco (Easy Germination!)

Note: I wrote today's tutorial a little different from normal. After the intro, it's almost all bullet points. My goal was to make it faster to read since you can skim it and still get all the info. I'd love to hear your feedback if this is a format you like. Feel free to hit the "reply" button and let us know what you think!. Time to sprout your cannabis seeds! But there are lots of ways to
germinate cannabis seeds. Which seed germination method is the easiest? How can you sprout almost 100% of cannabis seeds with almost zero effort? The answer is to plant your seed directly in the soil or coco. Today’s germination tutorial will teach you how to plant your seeds in soil and still get excellent germination rates. (I recently used this technique on 8 seeds that were over 4 years old, and got a 100% germination rate!) Planting cannabis seeds directly in the soil is easy and effective when done right Plant your cannabis seeds and keep them warm during germination The result? Cannabis seeds that pop up as beautiful seedlings in just a few days
What to do if your seedlings leaves won't open

While we're talking about sprouting seeds, I wanted to share the solution to a problem I've seen but never really heard growers talk about. Sometimes after a cannabis seed germinates, the shell leaves a "film" that can constrict your seedling leaves and prevent them from opening up. In worse cases, the entire shell might get stuck on the seedling. When this happens, to save the seedling you may need to free the leaves manually. However, it can be easy
to harm your seedling if you try to just pull it off. I know I've hurt seedlings by ripping a leaf or breaking the fragile root. However, this tutorial shares a technique that frees the leaves without hurting the seedlings. Learn how to safely free your leaves without hurting your
seedlings.

Why did the cannabis plant go to the doctor? Because it was having symptoms and needed to be diagnosed by our plant doctor tool! Is your cannabis plant not looking its best? For those who don't know, GrowWeedEasy has a free online tool that helps you figure out what's wrong with your cannabis plants. It can identify many common plant problems like nutrient deficiencies, odd growth patterns (including hard-to-diagnose issues like re-vegging), and pests (like the thrips pictured above, which is a common pest symptom and often misdiagnosed as a nutrient deficiency). You can search for your plant's particular symptoms or just browse through images to find a match. I hope it helps you as much as it would have helped me when I first started growing. "As a new supporter of GWE through Patreon I can’t believe there are not more readers and lovers of cannabis that don’t invest in the research you are doing to perfect growing cannabis. I for one thank you for all the information you are providing and can say with out a doubt that my grow skills have defiantly improved since reading GWE. Thank you." ~AS Hey AS, I'm glad to hear our information has helped improved your grow skills and you're reaping the rewards of your hard work. We believe that knowledge is power and we're dedicated to helping cannabis growers achieve their green-thumbed dreams. So thanks for investing in our research and supporting our mission to make the world a better (and more weed-filled) place. ~Nebula "Thanks for your great web site. I’ve enjoyed it since I first started growing my own. I wanted to share an easy concentrate recipe I created to use on high CBD cannabis. One sip and swish provides instant pain relief. After decarbing an ounce of buds, I crush them through a wire mesh strainer, then sift them over a fine mesh sieve to remove loose trichomes for other uses. I then take the
remaining material and place it in a French coffee press and pour in a Canadian whiskey stirring daily for three days. Finally, I press the contents, like making coffee. Mix in more whiskey to your taste. I call it Black Dog for the color. It also works great to concentrate poor quality buds." ~Michael Hey Michael, Making tinctures out of cannabis is a great way to enjoy your buds, and this
seems like an easy and effective tincture recipe. I like that it uses ingredients that a lot of people might already have laying around the house. Thanks for writing in and sharing your experience. ~Nebula

"Need I say more? The next Super Skunk grow is looking groovy! I'm gonna LST and HST the sh*t outta them. I just ordered new tent bottoms(trays) from VIVOSUN..they're 12.00 on their website..Mine are getting pretty funky after that waterproofing membrane wears off.." ~Mr. K Hey Mr. K, those are gorgeous vibrant plants. You know you're an experienced grower when you actually wear out the
waterproof tray on the bottom of your grow tent! It's really cool you could buy a replacement from Vivosun for so cheap. Thanks for sharing that tip for anyone with an old tray who doesn't want to have to buy a whole new grow tent. ~Nebula

"There is White Widow, Moby Dick and Super Skunk in the mix. I had some issues with extreme humidity up to 90%, which caused me to hit them with a little extra phosphorus which I really didn't want to do. Needed to speed up the process a bit. Burnt the tips of lots of the leaves but buds all look good. Plan on
harvesting this month. Grown in a 5'x10' AC Infinity grow tent. Too much temperature and humidity fluctuating to just set back and let them do their thing. Everything all organic but the extra phosphorus."
~KennyV Hey KennyV, Don't stress too much about your plants. They look great! Check out that sea of gorgeous
cannabis buds. Can't wait to see the harvest pictures! ~Nebula "Maybe you could do a little piece on information regarding the Autumn Color Effect? I've been seeing it crop up a lot on my plants this winter season - I'd love to hear your take, Neb! Feel free to use my pictures however you please. - One love, RWI :)" ~RunWithIt Hey RunWithIt, Your plants have turned a captivating purple! For those who don't know, some cannabis strains always turn purple (or some other color) no matter what you do as a grower. However, many strains only turn colors in certain situations. Some things that cause plants to turn purple for some strains: - When they experience warm days with cold nights (temperature fluctuations
- When they get strong light levels
- When they experience nutrient deficiencies or use up most of the nutrients in the soil
- Towards the end of the flowering stage
The last point is sometimes known as "Autumn Colors". Essentially, this means that some strains tend to turn purple as they approach harvest time. This can affect buds but mostly affects the leaves. Almost like how the leaves of maple trees turn beautiful colors in the Autumn. This is more likely to happen when combined with other factors on the list, and only happens with some strains. I will
definitely write about this in a future article. Thanks for the suggestion! ~Nebula

Scammers: the ultimate party poopers
|
Total Party Foul Scammers... Ugh! Scammers try to ruin your fun by tricking you into buying fake or non-existent cannabis seeds. Instagram tends to be the worst culprit but these scams can happen anywhere you talk to unknown people. The best way to avoid these mood killers is to buy your seeds from a reputable source that's been time-tested by other cannabis
growers. Make sure to watch out for seed scams! Remember: Real seed businesses don't contact you. They let you contact them. If anyone messages you to sell you seeds on social media, look out! It's possible they will take your payment and send nothing. Always take a second to think before sending money to anyone, especially if they contact
you (whether by DM, text message, phone call, email, etc.). Recommended Cannabis Seed Sources
These sources have gotten great reviews from our readers:
- Seed Supreme – California, United States
- ILGM (I Love Growing Marijuana) – California, United States
- Herbies Seeds – Europe (seemingly out of the UK and Spain)

Cannabis is much easier to grow than people give it credit for, and growing in water doesn't increase the difficulty much, if any.
