Web push notifications are short, one-time messages sent to a user's desktop when they have a web browser open. Visitors to your website first need to give permission to receive these notifications by opting-in to accept notifications or blocking notifications. They slide in either on the top or bottom right-hand corner of the screen, depending on the operating system. Web Push Notifications instantly deliver direct and time-sensitive messages that can link directly to a website, landing page, sign up form, or shopping cart.
Web push notifications are free to anyone with an AWeber account.
Setting up web push notifications on your website is easy. Just follow these steps:
Step 1: Click the “Web Push Notifications” tab in your account and then select the “Get Started” button.
Step 2: Enter your website information.
Step 3: Upload an image or logo.
Step 4: Copy and paste a snippet of code into your site.
Step 5: Download setup files and add them to your website.
A website visitor will see a popup modal asking them to opt-in to receive web push notifications. Once they click "Allow," you can create and send a web push notification message to them. The notification will slide in either on the upper left or bottom left of their desktop as long as they have a browser open.
After you have created a web push notification, click the “Send Web Push Notification” button. It will slide in either on the top or bottom right-hand corner of a user’s screen, depending on their operating system. Web Push Notifications instantly deliver direct and time-sensitive messages that can link directly to a website, landing page, sign up form, or shopping cart.
When a visitor clicks the accept button on your web push notification, they are automatically added to your web push notification list in your account.
When you send a new web push notification, it will be "pushed" to all your website visitors who have opted to see your content. Website subscribers will see this message slide in on their desktop as long as they have any web browser open. Website visitors do not need to be on your website to view your content.
Website subscribers need to have a browser open to see your content. If a subscriber is offline when you send the notification, they'll see it as soon as they go back online. Each message expires after 24 hours.
Today, web messaging comes in two forms—in-browser messages, which target active web visitors at the time they are on your website, or web push notifications, which can reach users when they're not actively engaging with your site. Web push notifications are instantly displayed to subscribers after you send them if their web browser is open (even if they are not on your website) or the next time they log in.
